Kate Marland
Kate is a proud MLC Alumna and no longer with the Centre.
An MA student in Fashion Studies at Ryerson University (2016-2018), Kate Marland researches the effect of fashion on the audience experience. Completing a BMus in Viola Performance at McGill University (2016), Kate’s career has taken her throughout Canada, the United States and Europe, performing as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician. Supervised by Dr. Irene Gammel, Kate’s Major Research Project “What Not to Wear to the Opera: Fashioning Elitism at the Met” examines through fashion theory how fashion plays a key role in the creation of a New York cultural elite centered on the consumption of opera. As an MA student, Kate also took on an a research assistantship under Dr. Alexandra Palmer at the Royal Ontario Museum.
